Vacation Meditation

Vacation. The very thought elicits feelings of relaxation, warmth, and happiness. Mostly, because at some point in our lives we have experienced just that on our own vacations. So why not take a moment to relive those wonderful times with this easy exercise.

To begin the Vacation Meditation, take a moment to find a quiet spot where you will not be disturbed. When you are ready, take three deep breaths. Inhale slowly, feeling the tension build. Exhale slowly and feel the tension slip away.

As you begin to relax, close your eyes. Remember the last time you went on a vacation. It doesn’t matter where you went or for how long.

Pick a moment in that vacation when you felt happy or exceptionally relaxed.

To the best of your ability, relive that moment as vividly as you can. Use all your senses. Was there a pleasant aroma? Where you eating anything? How did it taste? What did you see? Was anybody else there? What were they doing? What were you doing? What physical sensations did you feel?  How did you feel emotionally? Do you remember what you were thinking?

Feel free to stay and bask in that moment as long as you need to.

When you are ready, take a deep breath, and as you exhale, slowly open your eyes.

Pay attention to how you feel after the exercise. Do you feel calmer? More relaxed? In better spirits? I would love to hear about your experiences with the Vacation Meditation in the comments below!
